Employers may offer more flexible options or require fewer full-time roles due to a cooling labor market. Part-time job postings have climbed since 2022, while full-time postings remain flat, according to a June 20 report from Indeed Hiring Lab. Full-time jobs account for about 62% of postings as of May, with part-time roles at 32%, up 2.5 percentage points from May 2022. Nearly seven in 10 HR departments worldwide use artificial intelligence at least once per week, according to a new report by Freshworks. The unemployment rate for people with disabilities is typically at least twice as high as for those without disabilities, according to UN data. A SHRM survey found that 97% of HR managers said employees with disabilities perform the same as, or better than, their non-disabled peers. However, a Rutgers and Syracuse study found employers expressed 26% less interest in candidates who disclosed a disability, and senior-level candidates with disabilities were 34% less likely to receive interest. Despite the ADA, traditional hiring practices remain discriminatory, but AI technology offers a promising solution for fair and inclusive hiring.

Jobseekers with master’s degrees are favored by 3 in 4 employers for AI positions, according to a National University report. The university reviewed nearly 15,000 job listings and found that employers prefer graduate degrees for candidates' solutions-oriented mindset, adaptability, and technical skills. Additionally, two-thirds of recruiters have added bachelor’s degree requirements to their AI-focused job postings.

The pandemic overheated the U.S. labor market, causing businesses to panic and offer big raises amid labor shortages, leading to fears of a wage-price spiral. Recently, the market has cooled, with unemployment rising from 3.4% a year ago to 4% in May, a level considered full employment. The Fed is monitoring whether the labor market stays at a sustainable equilibrium or if further loosening leads to a recession. In April, the job-vacancy rate fell to 4.8%, down from 7.4% in March 2022, mainly through declining vacancies rather than rising unemployment.
