Largest Growth Sector for New Jobs Seen in Health Care and Social Assistance

The U.S. Labor Department reported that jobless claims through the week ending May 6 were the highest since November 2021. Claims for unemployment insurance rose by 22,000 to hit 264,000. The highest increases in initial claims were in Massachusetts 3,801, Kentucky 3,659, Pennsylvania 992, Virginia 896, and Colorado 726, while the decrease was in New York 9,456, Illinois 2,693, Georgia 1,278, New Jersey 783, and Ohio -505.

Recently Microsoft announced that the company is not willing to hike salaries for full-time employees this year due to the slowing economy. Already it has eliminated 10,000 jobs and this is the largest layoffs in more than eight years. As per Layoffs.fyi, all tech companies have slashed more than 192,000 jobs.

As per the Bureau of Labor Statistics Nonfarm payrolls increased by 253,000 in April. The first largest growth sector for new jobs has been seen in health care and social assistance with 64,200 and followed by professional and business services at 43,000 and then Leisure and hospitality at 31,000.

As per the new survey report, 44% of employees say they are underpaid and 32% of the payroll is no longer sufficient to meet employee demands. The key finding was 9% of companies effectively address pay equity issues by redesigning their pay.

A survey was conducted to find out how many are willing to work from home on 516 employed U.S. workers, 11.2% say that they would be willing to grow a mullet, 22% said they would do almost anything and 18.6% said they would accept a 10% cut in salary to work from home.
