Initial Jobless Claims Filed Increased by 28,000

The U.S. Labor Department reported that the initial jobless claims filed for the week ending June 3 increased by 28,000 compared to the previous week, reaching a total of 261,000 claims. The largest increases in initial claims were in Ohio 2,159, Texas 1,229, New York 1,177, Illinois 1,117, and Missouri 962 and decreased in California 771, Arkansas 455, Iowa 419, North Carolina 388, Michigan 365.

As per Bureau of Labor Statistics data, the US advertising and public relations sector added about 2600 jobs in May, the most significant employment record since 2001. The total employment in the industry hit 496,600 jobs. A study stated that 3,900 jobs were lost due to AI and this is the first time such losses have occurred due to technology.

In the US, for this summer majority of them are willing to spend more on travelling, day camps and dining out resulting in high paying jobs for teens. In April, employers reported 10.1 million job openings, far exceeding the 5.7 million unemployed job seekers. 20% of employment is from entertainment, food service and retail.

PwC survey revealed that 57% of the employees say that finances are the main stress concern, even 15% of the workers earning $100,000 also say they are living paycheck to paycheck and 28% of all workers said they are out of money between paychecks.

ZipRecruiter’s Job Seeker Confidence Index announced that in Q3 2023, job seeker confidence dropped to 3.8 points from 97.8 to 94. 61% feel financial pressure to accept the first job offer increase from 50% compared to the prior year. 66% feel confident that jobs are plenty percentage dropped from 75%, 47% feel it is difficult to find a job which is up by 34% in early 2021.
