Using Generative AI at Their Workplace Save Up to 10 Hours a Week

Nearly 4 in 10 users of generative AI in the workplace report they have been saving up to 10 hours a week, according to a survey of 820 people worldwide. 37% of daily gen AI users save between 5 to 10 hours weekly, while 38% save between 1 to almost 5 hours. 9% save 11 to 20 hours, and 2% save over 20 hours. The report highlights varying time savings based on roles, with technical roles typically saving 5 to 10 hours, while non-technical roles save 1 to less than 5 hours. Over 61% say access to gen AI at their workplace is beneficial.

A study by Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute reveals, that there is a huge demand for millions of workers in production and tech roles, despite a surge in manufacturing post-pandemic. With employment hitting 13 million and establishments rising by 11%, the industry faces a labor shortage, potentially requiring 3.8 million new workers by 2033. There is a high requirement for technical roles, such as simulation skills, and the projected growth of roles like industrial machinery maintenance technicians and semiconductor-processing technicians.

Female professionals are looking for more flexibility at their workplace than a salary or a promotion. 60% believe their companies offer sufficient career growth opportunities compared to men and 45% say they are not willing to lose a job opportunity with a level of flexibility. Only a third of them are seeking a new job in 2024.

The layoffs are to reduce costs, increase productivity and Musk cited the need for leaner operations amid duplicated roles and functions resulting from rapid expansion. The company didn't specify affected roles or locations, but Musk expressed gratitude to departing employees and emphasized the company's focus on productivity enhancements.

As per a report from the General Assembly, business leaders are facing challenges in filling high-demand tech roles, leading to premium pay rates. The survey highlights it is tough to hire AI-skilled individuals, 69% feel it is harder than traditional roles. Companies are adapting by paying more, with 66% agreeing to candidate salary demands and spending at least $10,000 on such hires. Alternative hiring methods, like reducing educational requirements and increasing HR staff, are also being embraced to meet talent needs in the evolving AI-driven workplace.
